Our shade sails are made from premium grade high-density polyethylene material, which offers up to 97% UV protection.
Each sail is interlock seamed with twin lock stitching. The shade sail edges are hemmed with heavy duty UV stabilised webbing and the corners on sails larger than 25m2 are reinforced. Stainless steel rings are used for the fixing points.
We only use marine grade stainless steel fittings and rigging which give the sail structure a high aesthetic profile as well as being easy to maintain and is of course long lasting.
Shade sails are attached to free standing upright posts or a suitable fixing point on a building with stainless steel fixing points and rigging. All uprights are directly embedded in a concrete (min 20mpa) footing. Freestanding uprights are available in stainless steel, galvanised steel, powder coated or painted steel and timber.
There are many things to consider when planning your shade sail just as with any building project. Our thorough planning will make certain that your shade sail provides you with all the benefits you intend it to. We carefully consider your particular requirements when we plan the location of your shade sail.
The points used when fixing shade sails must be set at least at two alternate heights which prevents water pooling on the sails and allowing a free flow of air. In general a square or rectangular shaped sail requires two higher and two lower fixing points, with uprights that are of equal height and set diagonally at opposite corners which creates a visually pleasing and functional structure. A triangular shaped sail will require one higher fixing point.
Your shade sail will be installed firm and tight so as to reduce wind-flap in the shade fabric. Shade fabric that is loose and flapping in any wind will cause premature failure due to mechanical breakdown. This is not UV breakdown and is not covered by the fabric manufacturers UV warranty. All of our custom designed sail structures are installed to engineers specifications. Please note that in certain circumstances (i.e. community pools or commercial projects) it may be necessary to obtain local government authority permission prior to installation of shade sail structures.
Your shade sail can remain in place all year round, however it will require periodic maintenance to ensure that the fabric remains tight and free of any debris etc especially before winter and the onset of rains.
The Shade Sail Company offers the optional service to maintain your shade sail and structure at the end of summer by dismantling the sails and all rigging. We then clean the sails, rigging and fittings before packing away in a custom made bag for you to store over the winter period.
Our spring service is based on re-installing the system ready for the summer. These services are available in October/November and April/May.
We have 14 colours available, which offer up to 97% Ultra Violet protection from the suns harmful rays. A ten-year UV warranty is given on all sails. Please note that all colours shown are an indication only and may differ to the actual fabric we supply. True colour samples of the fabric can be seen during our planning and design consultation with you.
